HLG is led by Richard T. Herman, Esq., an immigration lawyer with more than 30 years of experience. Request Richard or another team member when arranging your appointment; confirm availability before booking.
What you can accomplish during the review
Bring your prepared packet and the questions that matter most to you. The attorney can examine the materials covered by the appointment, discuss inconsistencies or missing information, explain why an issue matters, and help you identify what needs attention before filing. A concern may require more records or a separate legal analysis before it can be resolved.
- Forms and answers: unclear responses or differences in names, dates, addresses or immigration history.
- Supporting evidence: how your records relate to the application and whether important information appears to be missing.
- Filing preparation: questions about current instructions, signatures, translations, fees or the proposed filing method.
- Next steps: corrections to consider, records to obtain, and issues that may require further attorney work.
What the one-hour appointment does not include
- Preparing, rewriting, correcting or filing the application for you; government fees are separate.
- Contacting an agency, attending an interview or hearing, or responding to a later notice.
- Monitoring deadlines, additional meetings or continuing representation.
- Advance reading, a written opinion, written meeting summary or marked-up forms unless separately agreed before booking.
The review covers the agreed materials and issues that can be addressed during the hour. It does not certify that the whole packet is complete or error-free, guarantee approval, or promise faster processing. A large packet or complex history may require a different engagement. You remain responsible for corrections, filing and deadlines unless HLG separately agrees to handle them.
Choose and prepare for your appointment
Document review or an initial consultation
Choose a document review when you have prepared forms and evidence and want feedback on that work. Start with an initial consultation if your main question is what to apply for, whether you may qualify, or which strategy to consider.
The current initial consultation is $200 for one hour. Document review is $500 for one hour. If you want HLG to prepare or handle the case, representation requires a separate agreement on scope and fees. Confirm the appropriate appointment and current terms before booking.

How the document review works
1. Confirm the fit. Tell HLG the application or petition type, approximate packet length, any government deadline, and your main questions. Mention your preferred attorney and language. Complex business petitions, urgent notices or pending court matters may require another service.
2. Organize your materials. Prepare the complete forms, supporting evidence, relevant immigration records and all pages of any notice. Include a short timeline and a prioritized question list. Follow the firm’s document-delivery instructions; sending materials does not itself include advance attorney reading.
3. Review the packet together. Explain your goals and any prior filings, refusals or other concerns. Use the scheduled hour to examine the agreed materials, ask questions and discuss what the attorney identifies. If an issue cannot be resolved within the appointment, discuss the additional information or work it requires.
4. Confirm the next steps. Before the meeting ends, ask which issues remain open and what you should address before filing. Further research, another review, corrections or representation must be agreed separately.
What to bring
- Your prepared forms and supporting evidence, organized in the order you intend to submit them.
- Relevant notices, prior applications or decisions, identity and status records, and any important court records.
- A brief timeline, your filing deadline and your three most important questions.
- Original-language documents with available translations; identify any translation questions for the attorney.
Tell us about arrests, removal proceedings, previous denials, inconsistent answers or other potentially important facts when arranging the appointment. Do not assume an older application or an online preparation service has already resolved those issues.
For an online appointment, confirm how to deliver your packet before sending sensitive documents. For in-person appointments, ask what format to bring. Call first if the deadline is close; scheduling a review does not extend it.

Experienced advice and the right service
Why work with Richard and HLG
Immigration paperwork affects families, careers and long-term plans. A useful review should help you understand the significance of a concern, not simply point to an empty box. HLG’s approach is to listen carefully, explain plainly and be candid about questions that need more attention.
Richard T. Herman founded Herman Legal Group in 1995 and co-authored Immigrant, Inc. You can ask for Richard when scheduling or request an attorney whose background and language skills fit your needs. Availability and the scope of the appointment must be confirmed.

Examples of packets to ask us about
HLG can discuss whether a document review fits your marriage-based green card, adjustment of status, I-751, naturalization or consular-processing materials. Tell us what you have prepared; these examples do not mean every packet can be fully evaluated in one hour.
Marriage green card representation
Adjustment of status representation
Naturalization and citizenship
If you received an RFE, denial or other government notice, ask about a notice-specific consultation before selecting a routine pre-filing review. The next step depends on the notice, the case history and the time available.
USCIS problems, denials and appeals
A firm you can contact again
The review gives you an opportunity to get to know Richard and the HLG team. If you later need help, you can contact the firm to discuss a new engagement. The earlier review does not include later notices, emergency coverage or ongoing case monitoring; confirm that HLG has agreed to handle any new matter.
Questions and booking
Will the attorney read my packet before we meet
Advance reading is not included in the standard $500 appointment unless separately agreed before booking. The standard service is a review together during the scheduled hour. Tell us the packet size and complexity so we can discuss whether a different arrangement is needed.
Will I receive written advice or a meeting summary
The standard appointment includes discussion and attorney feedback during the meeting. It does not automatically include a written summary, marked-up forms or a formal legal opinion. If written work is important to you, ask before booking whether HLG can provide it and agree separately on the scope, fee and timing.
Can you review forms prepared through another service
You may ask HLG to review materials you prepared yourself or with another service. Bring the complete forms and evidence and explain the help you already received. HLG will confirm the appropriate scope; the review is not an endorsement or certification of the preparation service.
What if one hour is not enough
Some packets or legal issues need more time, additional records or research. The attorney can explain which questions remain open and what further work may be appropriate. Additional work is not automatically included or undertaken; it requires a separate agreement.
Can I send questions or corrected forms afterward
Follow-up questions, review of corrected forms and further meetings are outside the standard appointment unless separately agreed. Ask during the meeting what to do next and whether another review would be useful before you file.
Does the review guarantee approval
No. The government decides the application. An attorney review can identify concerns within the agreed scope, but cannot eliminate every risk, prevent every request for evidence or guarantee an outcome.
