Case Processing Times

The USCIS handles cases in the order it receives them and provides processing times that are based on historical data. They are also piloting a new method of calculating these times. The following examples from the Albuquerque office are based on this new method:

  • Citizenship and Issuance of Certificate Under Section 322 (N-600K): 10 to 22.5 months
  • Certificate of Citizenship (N-600): 6.5 to 14.5 months
  • Naturalization (N-400): 12 to 17.5 months

In this method, the maximum number of months you see for a form type is the duration for processing 93% of the applications. In other words, only a small percentage of applications take longer than the time you see for your form.

The USCIS Website

The federal agency’s official website is an important resource for filing applications and following the case. here are some of its features:

  • A calculator for calculating your form submission fees. The tool is capable of calculating variable fees along with fixed fees.
  • An e-request section for online submission of requests regarding case delays, missing documents, appointment accommodations, and typographic errors.
  • A multilingual resource center containing articles in Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, French, and other languages.
  • An office locator section that allows you to locate application centers, authorized doctors, citizenship classes, and English classes based on your zip code.
  • How-to guides on procedures before and after applying.

Visiting Information

Before visiting a field office, there’s certain information you should have, including the visiting hours on that day and the current visitor policy. Visiting hours are important because the office may change these based on something unusual happening on that particular day, such as inclement weather conditions. Visitor policy gives you an idea of what is and isn’t allowed. The field offices section also contains important points about visits.
