Case Processing Times

Different application forms have different processing times and there can also be a lot of difference between the times given for your form. To explain the concept further, here are processing times at the Boston field office for three different types of applications.

  • Naturalization (N-400): 6.5 to 14.5 months
  • Certificate of Citizenship (N-600): 6.5 to 14.5 months
  • Citizenship and Issuance of Certificate Under Section 322 (N-600K): 10 to 22.5 months

Firstly, this format for processing times is available for some types of applications. For others, the USCIS is still using its standard format. Secondly, the starting figure of the time range indicates the months needed for processing half of the cases, and the second figure is the months for processing most of the applications (93% to be precise).

Online Filing

To facilitate the form filers, the federal agency has an online fee calculator and many forms that can be submitted online.

The fee calculator shows flat fees and variable fees. According to the USCIS, it always has up-to-date information and provides exact fees for forms processed at lockbox facilities of the agency. If the fee is variable, the calculator will ask relevant questions to arrive at the correct answer.

The USCIS allows you to submit an number of forms online. Using the online system is secure and can also help you avoid common mistakes, according to the agency. To submit an online application, you have to first create an online account. Some popular online forms include the N-400, I-90, and I-130.
