Local USCIS Office in Salt Lake City, Utah
More than 6,800 green card recipients lived in Utah in 2019 (Statista). The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) provides immigration seekers with various articles, calculators, and case progress checkers through their official website. You also have the option to submit their case online, depending on their form type. However, the federal agency does require applicants to participate in an in-person interview.
Field offices are the venue for in-person interviews, except for asylum-seekers. The applicant is usually interviewed in an office that’s nearest to their location. If you are unsure about the USCIS location that’s the nearest, you can check it on the agency’s official website by providing your zip code.
The Salt Lake City Field Office
The office serves the Utah state and it’s located at:
Salt Lake City (SLC) 660 South 200 East Suite 400 Salt Lake City, UT 84111
The field office is in the Denver District of the USCIS. The agency has divided the country into 26 Districts.
Note that field officers sometimes transfer a case to another office to better the processing times. In this case, the biometrics, if required, still takes place at the nearest location. Besides case transfers, here’s some other important information about office visits:
- You shouldn’t visit if you’re feeling sick. The symptoms for which you should take this precaution include cold, flu, fever, vomiting, and other symptoms mentioned here.
- Sometimes an office location may be temporarily or permanently closed. If the weather is bad on the day of your appointment or an unexpected event takes place on that day, the office may change its timings.
- You should keep your phone on silent while waiting for your meeting with the USCIS representative and switch it off when in the meeting. You should also avoid taking photos or recording something during your visit.
- Don’t take any knives, pepper spray, firearms, or ammunition because doing so is prohibited under the law even if you have a license for your firearm.
Case Processing Times
The USCIS provides you with processing times based on your form type and office location. There can be a lot of variation between the processing times of different forms. Here are three examples of times at the Salt Lake City location:
- Naturalization (N-400): 13 to 15.5 months
- Certificate of Citizenship (N-600): 6.5 to 14.5 months
- Citizenship and Issuance of Certificate Under Section 322 (N-600K): 10 to 22.5 months
The first figure you see for a form type is the time for half of the cases and the second figure is the months for most cases (93% to be exact). This means that there is a good chance your application will be processed within the time shown to you however the USCIS does say that this time is not fixed.
After you file your application, you can use its Receipt Number to check the status of your case online from the following section of the site. You can also ask about processing delays online (instructions are available on the case processing page linked above).
