Michigan Immigration Lawyers Serving Clients Statewide

U.S. Immigration Counsel for People and Employers Across Michigan

Herman Legal Group may help Michigan residents, families, workers, and employers with U.S. immigration matters from anywhere in the state. The firm handles matters involving family immigration, employment immigration, removal defense, waivers, and citizenship when the facts fit its practice and it accepts the engagement. Consultations and much of the legal work can be handled remotely. A government agency may still require the client to appear for biometrics, an interview, a border inspection, or a court hearing.

HLG does not have a physical office in Michigan. Its headquarters is in Cleveland, and its other verified office is in Worthington in the Columbus area. The Michigan and city pages on this website describe areas where HLG may provide U.S. immigration legal services; they do not identify branch offices.

Michigan immigration help at a glance

  • Law covered: U.S. immigration and nationality law.
  • Michigan office: No. HLG serves appropriate Michigan matters remotely from its verified Ohio offices.
  • Government venue: The responsible USCIS office, immigration court, consular post, or port of entry depends on the case and official notices—not simply on the client’s preferred city.
  • First useful step: Identify the benefit or problem, the responsible federal agency, and every deadline before choosing a filing strategy.

What Kind of Michigan Immigration Matter Do You Have?

“Immigration case” can describe very different legal processes. The correct path depends on the person’s current status, immigration history, family or employer relationship, location, and long-term goal.

  • Family-based immigration: petitions for qualifying relatives, adjustment of status, consular processing, fiancé(e) matters, and related evidence questions.
  • Employment-based immigration: temporary work classifications, employer petitions, employment-based permanent residence, and mobility planning.
  • Removal and deportation defense: representation in immigration court and evaluation of possible relief, subject to the facts, deadlines, and venue.
  • Immigration waivers: analysis of a specific ground of inadmissibility and whether the law provides a waiver for that ground and immigration category.
  • Naturalization and citizenship: eligibility review, application preparation, interview issues, prior-history questions, and citizenship claims.

A prior overstay, removal order, arrest, criminal case, visa refusal, misrepresentation concern, or unlawful-presence issue can change the analysis. Those facts should be reviewed before a new application, international trip, or border request.

Which Federal Agency or Court May Handle a Michigan Case?

USCIS applications, petitions, biometrics, and interviews

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services decides many petitions and applications filed inside the United States. Some forms may be filed online; others go to a lockbox or another filing location. A Michigan mailing address does not mean every step occurs at the same office. Use the official USCIS office finder, and follow the address and instructions on the latest notice. USCIS states that field offices do not accept walk-ins and require an appointment.

Detroit Immigration Court and removal proceedings

EOIR currently lists the Detroit Immigration Court as Michigan’s immigration court. That does not establish that every Michigan-related case belongs there. Detained cases, a move, a change of venue, or agency assignment can affect where a proceeding is heard. The hearing notice and court record control. Verify the court and hearing method through EOIR’s court locator and case-information tools.

Embassy or consulate processing outside the United States

When a person completes visa processing abroad, the Department of State and the assigned U.S. embassy or consulate control the interview stage. A sponsor’s Michigan residence does not, by itself, determine the interview post. Nationality, residence, visa category, post operations, and case-transfer rules may matter. Consult the current visa-issuing-post directory and the instructions issued for the individual case.

Michigan ports of entry and admission decisions

Michigan’s international border and airports create questions that do not arise in every state. A visa or approved petition does not itself guarantee admission. U.S. Customs and Border Protection makes the inspection and admission decision at the port. Before traveling, review the applicable document requirements and CBP’s current Michigan port directory. A traveler with a prior refusal, removal, status violation, or possible inadmissibility issue should obtain individualized advice before appearing at a port.

Michigan City Service Pages

Choose the most relevant city page for local context. These links identify service areas, not HLG office locations. HLG may also evaluate matters from other Michigan communities even when a city does not have a dedicated page.

How Remote Representation Can Work

  1. Case screening: HLG reviews the goal, current status, immigration history, location, and any urgent deadline.
  2. Venue and records: The team identifies the responsible agency or court and reviews notices, prior filings, passports, civil records, and supporting evidence.
  3. Scope in writing: Representation begins only after a conflict check, mutual agreement on the scope, and a signed engagement agreement.
  4. Preparation and case management: Meetings and document exchange may occur remotely, while the client follows all official instructions for required in-person events.

Eligible attorneys may represent clients before federal immigration bodies subject to each agency’s appearance, registration, professional-responsibility, and case-specific requirements. Remote service does not change a filing deadline, excuse an appearance, or move a case to a preferred office or court.

Michigan Immigration Questions

Does Herman Legal Group have an office in Michigan?

No. HLG’s verified physical offices are in Cleveland and Worthington, Ohio. The firm may serve suitable Michigan matters remotely after a consultation, conflict check, and written engagement.

Can a Cleveland-based immigration lawyer represent someone in Michigan?

Often, a properly authorized attorney can represent a client before a federal immigration agency or EOIR without maintaining an office in the client’s state. The answer depends on the forum, the attorney’s eligibility to appear, the scope of the matter, and any state-law issue connected to the case. HLG must evaluate and accept the specific engagement.

Is every Michigan immigration appointment held in Detroit?

No. A USCIS appointment, immigration-court hearing, biometrics appointment, consular interview, or port inspection follows different assignment rules. The latest official notice is the primary source for the location, date, time, and appearance method.

Can my entire case be completed virtually?

Legal meetings and document work can often be handled remotely, but the government may require in-person biometrics, interviews, inspections, medical examinations, oath ceremonies, or hearings. Never assume an appearance is remote unless the responsible agency or court says so.

Does choosing a Michigan city page affect my legal options?

No. A city page helps visitors find relevant local context. Eligibility and strategy depend on federal law and the person’s facts, not which service-area page was used to contact the firm.
