Two paths to a green card

Family sponsorship after parole

An HLG client with Temporary Protected Status and a parole entry obtained a green card through an adult U.S. citizen child. Eligibility and the entry record required review together.

Spousal petition, waiver and consular processing

Another client received an approved spousal I-130, an I-601A provisional unlawful presence waiver, and an immigrant visa after National Visa Center processing and a consular interview, then a green card. Waiver approval alone does not guarantee a visa.

Immigration Services for Youngstown

Our immigration attorneys assess legal requirements and risks before recommending an application or defense.

Family Immigration & Marriage Green Cards

We assist with marriage green cards, I-130 petitions, adjustment of status, consular processing and fiancé visas. U.S. citizens can petition for spouses, children, parents and siblings; petitioners must be 21 for parents or siblings. Permanent residents can petition for spouses and unmarried children. Immediate relatives include a U.S. citizen’s spouse, unmarried child under 21 and parent of a citizen aged 21 or older. These visas have no annual numerical limit; family-preference visas do. Family reunification and permanent residency depend on the qualifying relationship and other eligibility requirements. An approved petition alone does not grant immigration status or work authorization. See official family-immigration eligibility.

Employment Visas & Green Cards

We advise Mahoning Valley employers and professionals on H-1B, L-1 and O-1 work visas, PERM, I-140 petitions, employment-based green cards, business visas and investor visas. Options depend on the job, qualifications and immigration history.

Citizenship & Naturalization

We assist with N-400 applications and interview preparation. Before filing, review how permanent residence was obtained, travel, taxes and criminal history; a green card alone does not establish naturalization eligibility.

Removal & Deportation Defense

Deportation defense means representing clients in removal proceedings. If you receive a Notice to Appear, contact an immigration lawyer promptly to review the allegations and hearing instructions. We assess prior orders, missed hearings and available relief, and handle immigration court representation and immigration appeals. Release, bond and relief depend on the case.

Immigration Waivers

We evaluate unlawful presence, prior removal, fraud allegations and possible waivers. Criminal charges, including DUI, may require coordination with criminal defense counsel before a plea. Asylum and humanitarian relief require separate eligibility and deadline analysis.

Youngstown State University Students

YSU students can seek advice about F-1 status, CPT, OPT, SEVIS and employment transitions. Coordinate with your designated school official before working. YSU recommends OPT; USCIS authorizes it. YSU employment guidance. HLG is independent of YSU.

How We Analyze an Immigration Case

We review your goals, filings, family relationships, entries and departures to identify missing evidence and risks before filing.

✓ Eligibility for the requested benefit

✓ Overstays, unauthorized work and status violations

✓ Removal orders and court history

✓ Unlawful-presence bars

✓ Arrests, convictions and dismissed charges

✓ Inconsistent prior applications

✓ Risks created by a new filing

✓ Options if the government disagrees

What to Expect From an Immigration Consultation

Discuss your goals, deadlines, legal options and scope of representation. Ask who handles your case, how updates work and what the engagement includes. The immigration process may involve gathering government records, preparing supporting evidence, filing an application, responding to requests and attending an interview or hearing. Your lawyer should explain which steps apply to you and what remains uncertain.

Bring your passport, I-94, prior filings, government notices, arrest or conviction records, and relevant marriage or divorce documents. Attorney fees, government filing fees and other costs should be explained separately.

Cleveland USCIS and Immigration Court: Youngstown Logistics

USCIS interviews, immigration court hearings and ICE reporting are separate appointments. Follow your notice’s location, date and attendance instructions; a field office address is not automatically a filing address.

Choosing an Immigration Lawyer Serving Youngstown

Verify an attorney’s license and good standing with the state licensing agency. For a nonlawyer, check DOJ accreditation, recognized organization and authorized scope of practice; partial accreditation does not authorize immigration court representation. A lawyer should ask detailed questions about entries, departures, family members and criminal history before recommending a strategy. Ask for a clear written explanation of attorney fees and government costs, and how changes in immigration law could affect your case. Avoid guaranteed approvals. DOJ guidance on authorized representatives.

Youngstown Immigration Lawyer FAQs

Does HLG have a staffed Youngstown office?

No. HLG serves Youngstown from its Cleveland headquarters. Arrange a remote consultation or an in-person Cleveland appointment.

Which Youngstown facilities have held ICE detainees?

Ohio Immigrant Alliance’s January 2025–March 2026 report identifies Northeast Ohio Correctional Center and Mahoning County Justice Center. Confirm current location through ICE and the facility; arrangements and transfers change.

Can an immigration lawyer help after a denial?

Yes. Bring the complete denial promptly. An attorney can assess appeals, motions or new filings and their deadlines; not every decision can be appealed.

Can a YSU student start work while OPT is pending?

A pending OPT application alone is not work authorization. Confirm your authorization and permitted start date with your school official and attorney; CPT, OPT and other work categories have different rules.

How much does a Youngstown immigration lawyer cost?

Costs depend on the case, complexity and scope of representation. Request a written fee arrangement separating attorney fees, government filing fees, translations and other expenses.

Do Youngstown cases always go to Cleveland Immigration Court?

No. Benefit applications may not involve court. For removal proceedings, follow your hearing notice; detention or transfer can affect the court handling the case.

Can an immigration lawyer guarantee approval?

No. An attorney can assess eligibility, prepare evidence and advocate for you, but the government decides the case.
