On Thursday, Mexican immigration authorities discovered a truck carrying 366 migrants from 16 different countries. Some of the migrants on the truck were from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Yemen, Uzbekistan and South Africa. Police found the truck parked on the side of a road in the southern state of Chiapas, on the border with Guatemala. Let’s find out their real motivation in this article.
The 16 countries whose nationals were on board the truck found by Mexican authorities
The truck carrying the refugees contained 16 different nationalities namely: Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Yemen, Uzbekistan, South Africa, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Venezuela.
Inhumane transport conditions
During the inspection, it was found that migrants were crammed into the truck in inhumane conditions. Police found the truck parked on the side of a road in the southern state of Chiapas, bordering Guatemala. There were so many immigrants that they were hanging their legs from the roofs of the cargo container.
The reasons for the crowding of migrants in the truck
The reason why these migrants choose this dangerous path of immigration is that their visas take a long time to become available.
The migrants are desperate to get out of Tapachula, another city closer to Guatemala, where the authorities have made them wait for visas. So many migrants are trying to walk or hitchhike north.
